Funding Priorities

Brain Tumor
Brain tumors remain among the most complex and deadliest cancers, affecting patients of all ages and often with limited treatment options. For the most aggressive form, glioblastoma, the five-year survival rate is less than 10%. Goodman Campbell’s multidisciplinary team is dedicated to providing expert care, preserving patients’ quality of life, and advancing treatment options through groundbreaking clinical research. This commitment to excellence helped establish the Ascension St. Vincent Indianapolis Brain Tumor Center as the first and only program in Indiana, and one of only a handful in the nation, to earn the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Brain Tumor Certification, recognizing the highest standards in coordinated, patient-centered care.

Your support drives innovation in early detection, more effective therapies, and ultimately life-saving breakthroughs. Every contribution helps advance hope for patients and families facing devastating diagnoses, moving us closer to cures that can change — and save — lives.

Give Now

Aneurysm

Aneurysms are often silent, life-threatening conditions that can strike without warning, leading to devastating outcomes such as stroke, permanent disability, or sudden death. Each year, nearly 500,000 people worldwide die from brain aneurysms, and half the victims are under age 50. Funding research and clinical innovation at Goodman Campbell helps improve early detection, advance minimally invasive treatments, and deepen our understanding of risk factors to prevent ruptures before they occur. Every donation fuels progress toward saving lives and giving patients and their families the chance for healthier, longer futures.

Give Now

Stroke

Strokes are a leading cause of death and long-term disability, often leaving survivors with life-altering physical and cognitive challenges. In the U.S., someone has a stroke every 40 seconds. Fortunately, Goodman Campbell’s interventional stroke practice is one the largest and most advanced in the U.S. Our research turns what was once often fatal or permanently disabling into a condition that is increasingly preventable, treatable, and survivable—giving patients a real chance at recovery and a future. Your gift supports Goodman Campbell’s lifesaving breakthroughs that can reduce the devastating impact of stroke and protect families from its lasting effects.

Give Now

Spine

From degenerative diseases and trauma, to tumors and blood vessel malformations, spinal conditions are among the most common and debilitating health issues, affecting millions of people and often leading to chronic pain, lost mobility, and reduced quality of life. Nearly 4 in 10 U.S. adults experience back pain in a given year, making it one of the leading causes of disability and missed work. Research and clinical innovation are driving breakthroughs in advanced imaging, minimally invasive surgery, and regenerative therapies that can reduce pain, restore function, and shorten recovery times. Continued investment helps Goodman Campbell improve outcomes, prevent long-term disability, and give patients the ability to return to active, independent lives.

Give Now

Trauma

Brain and spinal injuries can happen suddenly and change a life forever, leaving patients with severe disability or long-term cognitive and physical challenges. Every second can mean the difference between recovery and permanent damage. Thankfully, Goodman Campbell neurosurgeons are on call 24 hours a day at Ascension St. Vincent Indianapolis’ Level 1 Trauma Center. Along with the clinical expertise employed in the trauma service and neurointensive care unit, Goodman Campbell’s neurotrauma research is essential to improving rapid diagnosis, surgical techniques, and critical care that can reduce brain and spine damage while saving lives in those crucial moments after injury. Continued investment ensures that when the unthinkable happens, patients have access to the most effective treatments possible — giving them the best chance to survive, recover, and reclaim their lives after suffering devastating trauma.

Give Now

Interventional Pain Management

Chronic pain is one of the most widespread and debilitating health challenges today, affecting more than 50 million adults in the U.S. This often-invisible condition can limit mobility, reduce quality of life, and impact a person’s ability to work and care for their family. Research at Goodman Campbell is driving innovative, minimally invasive treatments, such as targeted injections and nerve therapies, that can provide meaningful relief without relying solely on medications. These advances are especially important in reducing dependence on opioids and improving long-term outcomes for patients. Every investment in research helps develop safer, more effective pain solutions — giving millions of people the chance to live healthier, more active, and more independent lives.

Give Now

Epilepsy

Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological disorders, affecting nearly 3 million adults and more than 450,000 children in the U.S. Seizures can occur without warning, disrupting daily life and putting individuals at risk for injury, loss of independence, and serious health complications. Fortunately, research and clinical innovation can improve early diagnosis, support the development of more effective treatments, and advance surgical and device-based therapies that can help patients achieve seizure control. In fact, up to 70% of people with epilepsy could become seizure-free with proper treatment, underscoring the life-changing potential of continued innovation. Your support brings us closer to safer, more personalized care — reducing seizures, improving quality of life, and offering hope to millions of patients and families living with this unpredictable condition.

Give Now

Parkinson’s Disease

Parkinson’s Disease is a progressive condition that affects more than 1.1 million Americans, with nearly 90,000 new diagnoses each year. Functional neurosurgical innovations, such as deep brain stimulation (DBS), are already changing lives by directly targeting abnormal brain activity. These procedures can significantly reduce debilitating symptoms including tremors, stiffness, and slowed movement. Continued investment is essential to refine these life-changing technologies, expand access, and develop even more precise, personalized treatments. Every contribution helps bring hope to patients and families — offering not just symptom relief, but also the possibility of greater independence, dignity, and quality of life.

Give Now

Traumatic Brain Injury

Supporting traumatic brain injury (TBI) research means investing in hope for millions of individuals and families whose lives are changed in an instant. In the U.S., an estimated 2.8 million people sustain a TBI annually. TBIs can affect memory, personality, mobility, and independence — often with lifelong consequences — yet treatment options remain limited and recovery unpredictable. By funding research, you help accelerate breakthroughs in prevention, diagnosis, and rehabilitation, giving patients a greater chance to recover and regain their quality of life. Every contribution brings us closer to better treatments and, ultimately, a reduction in the devastating impacts of brain injuries on our communities.

Give Now

Pediatric

Supporting pediatric neurosurgery research and innovation is an investment in life-changing discoveries for children facing some of the most complex and devastating neurological conditions. Because children’s brains and bodies are still developing, they require highly specialized approaches — making research essential to advancing safer, more effective treatments tailored just for them. Continued clinical innovation is critical to translating scientific breakthroughs into real-world care, improving surgical techniques, reducing risks, and enhancing recovery and quality of life. Every contribution helps drive progress, offering hope to families and creating a future where more children not only survive but thrive.

Give Now

Survivor Support

Funding survivor support groups means investing not just in survival, but in the quality of life that follows diagnosis and treatment. Many individuals continue to navigate cognitive, emotional, and physical challenges that affect their independence, relationships, and ability to work. At Goodman Campbell, aneurysm and brain tumor support groups provide a vital space where patients and their loved ones can connect with others who understand their journey, access meaningful resources, and find the support they need to heal and move forward.

Every Gift Matters

What kind of supporter would you like to be? Explore all the ways you can make a difference by giving to the Neurosurgery Foundation at Goodman Campbell — from donating once to creating an enduring legacy.

Stocks, Securities & Mutual Funds

Many donors choose to contribute stocks, mutual funds, or other securities instead of making cash gifts. Donating appreciated assets can be a tax-smart strategy — often allowing you to minimize or eliminate capital gains taxes while also receiving a charitable deduction based on the full market value of the asset, provided it has been held for more than one year.

Benefits of donating appreciated assets include:

  • Potentially greater tax savings compared to cash contributions
  • Elimination of capital gains tax on donated assets
  • Eligibility for a charitable income tax deduction based on full fair market value (for assets held longer than one year)
  • The opportunity to support our mission right away

How the process works:

  • Transfer your appreciated securities directly to our organization, which helps you avoid capital gains tax.
  • You will receive documentation reflecting the fair market value of your gift for tax purposes.
  •  Once received, the assets are liquidated and the proceeds are immediately directed to advance our mission.

Retirement

A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) offers a tax-smart way for individuals aged 70.5 and older to support charitable organizations directly from an Individual Retirement Account (IRA). For those aged 73 and above who must take an annual Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), a QCD can be used to meet some or all of that requirement.

Who may benefit:

  • Individuals age 70.5 or older
  • Owners of traditional IRA accounts
  • Those looking for ways to lower taxable income

Benefits of a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD):

  • May reduce overall taxable income.
  • Can be applied toward your annual RMD obligation.
  • Provides immediate support for our mission.

How it works:

  • To begin the process, contact your IRA custodian for instructions on initiating a Qualified Charitable Distribution.
  • Direct your IRA custodian to transfer up to $111,000 to one or more qualifying charitable organizations.
  • Notify the Neurosurgery Foundation once the request has been initiated and indicate which financial institution will be issuing the distribution.
  • Because the distribution is excluded from taxable income and does not qualify for a charitable deduction, it can be advantageous even if you do not itemize deductions.

Donor-Advised Funds

A donor-advised fund (DAF) provides a convenient, tax-efficient way to support charitable causes over time. When you contribute to a DAF, you receive an immediate tax deduction, and the funds are invested and administered by the sponsoring organization. You can then recommend grants to the nonprofit organizations you care about, when and how you choose, allowing for a thoughtful, flexible approach to giving.

Benefits of donor-advised funds:

  • Maintain the ability to recommend grants on your own timeline.
  • Receive an upfront charitable tax deduction at the time of contribution.
  • Support our mission with gifts that can be distributed when you’re ready.

To recommend a grant, log into your donor-advised fund account or connect with your fund administrator to initiate a distribution.

Grant details:

The Neurosurgery Foundation at Goodman Campbell

Tax ID: 27-1597127

If you plan to make a gift through your DAF, we encourage you to let us know so we can ensure your contribution is directed according to your wishes and recognized appropriately.

Charitable Gift Annuities

If you’re seeking a way to strengthen your financial stability while supporting a charitable cause and lowering your taxes, a charitable gift annuity may be a compelling option. In exchange for your gift, you receive reliable, fixed payments for life. For individuals younger than 55, a deferred charitable gift annuity can be structured so that payments begin at a later date, often resulting in higher future income.

Benefits of a charitable gift annuity:

  • Qualify for an immediate charitable income tax deduction for a portion of your contribution.
  • Receive guaranteed, fixed payments for the duration of your lifetime.
  • Enjoy partially tax-advantaged income, which may be more beneficial than fully taxable payments.

How it works:

  • Make a gift of cash or appreciated securities to our organization.
  • In return, you (and, if applicable, a second beneficiary) receive fixed annual payments for life, with amounts based on factors such as age and gift value.
  • After the annuity term concludes, the remaining balance supports our mission and programs.

Before proceeding, it is advisable to consult with your financial advisor and estate planning professional to determine whether a charitable gift annuity aligns with your goals.

Charitable Remainder Trusts

A Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT) is a powerful planned giving option that enables you to support charitable causes while also securing income for yourself or your loved ones. With this irrevocable trust, you contribute assets that provide income payments to designated beneficiaries for a defined period or for life. At the end of the trust term, the remaining assets are directed to one or more charitable organizations.

Who may benefit:

  • Individuals who want to make a meaningful charitable gift while continuing to receive income
  • Those seeking to minimize or avoid capital gains taxes on appreciated assets
  • Donors interested in providing financial support for themselves, a spouse, or other beneficiaries

Benefits of a Charitable Remainder Trust:

  • Potentially reduce or eliminate capital gains tax on contributed assets.
  • Generate a reliable income stream for you or your chosen beneficiaries.
  • Create a lasting charitable legacy.

How it works:

  • You transfer assets (e.g., cash, marketable securities, or real estate) into a trust managed by a trustee.
  • The trust distributes income to designated beneficiaries for a specified number of years or for their lifetime.
  • When the trust term concludes, the remaining assets are distributed to the charitable organizations you have selected.
  • You may qualify for a charitable income tax deduction based on the present value of the charitable portion of the trust.
  • Donating appreciated assets through a CRT may also help reduce or avoid capital gains taxes.

Before establishing a Charitable Remainder Trust, it is important to consult with a qualified financial advisor and estate planning attorney to ensure it aligns with your broader financial and philanthropic goals.

  • Individuals looking to streamline their estate plans and potentially reduce estate tax exposure
  • Those who no longer need or use a property and would prefer to eliminate the ongoing costs and responsibilities of ownership

Benefits of donating real estate:

  • Potentially reduce estate tax liability.
  • Get relief from maintenance, taxes, and other ownership expenses.
  • Make a substantial contribution in support of our mission.

  • Contact us to discuss your interest in making a real estate gift.
  • Obtain a qualified appraisal to establish the property’s fair market value for tax purposes.
