Clinical Neurosurgical Research
Where medical breakthroughs are born
With more than 30 clinical trials in motion today, Goodman Campbell is driving breakthroughs in brain, spine, stroke, and pain care while expanding access to emerging therapies.
Progress for Patients & Neurosurgery
Research shapes standards of care around the world. At Goodman Campbell, our commitment to research is embedded in our culture. Our work is recognized among industry-leading neurosurgical journals, with physicians serving on editorial boards and professional committees. In this way, we’re not only continuous students of our own practice, but also active contributors to the advancement of neurosurgery — helping to shape the standards of care for patients around the world.
Research Publication
With support from the foundation, our practice has published more than 500 papers since 2010. Many of the conditions we treat still have imperfect outcomes, and advancing care depends on critically answering nuanced questions to optimize results. The belief that more is always possible — that more can be done — is at the heart of Goodman Campbell’s research mindset and culture. Discovering more effective diagnostic tools, treatments, and technologies starts with research.
Papers published by Goodman Campbell represent a wide range of neurological and neurosurgical topics, including the following:
- Radiographic Evaluation and Clinical Management of Cerebral Vasospasm (Neuroimaging Clinics of North America, August 2025)
- The Importance of Dysphagia Screening Before and After Cervical Spine Fusion (World Neurosurgery, November 2024 )
- Routine CTA screening identifies blunt cerebrovascular injuries missed by clinical risk factors (Trauma Surgery & Acute Care Open, August 2022)
- Use of an intraoperative sodium oxychlorosene-based infection prevention protocol to safely decrease postoperative wound infections after spine surgery (Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine, August 2021)
- Pain Relief and Multidimensional Outcomes of Fast-Acting Subperception Spinal Cord Stimulation Therapy for Chronic Pain: The FAST Prospective, Multicenter Study (Pain and Therapy, June 2026)

Clinical Trials
Medical innovation depends on clinical trials. They make it possible to drive life-saving breakthroughs, establish modern standards of care, and offer patients early access to cutting-edge treatments not yet available to the general public.
Goodman Campbell physicians have a dedicated interest in clinical trials related to neurologic conditions. Our physician specialists and research team actively pursue and are involved in a variety of clinical trials related to the brain and spine.
A dedicated Goodman Campbell research nurse is available at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to help patients with complex cases explore applicable clinical trials. Our research nurses and staff are experts in their areas of study and in the clinical trials we are conducting. Preview our research options and contact us at 317-396-1300 with any questions.
Global & National Thought Leadership
Goodman Campbell’s role at national conferences and meetings as speakers, event chairs, organizing committee members, and attendees furthers the mission of the foundation to support advances in clinical care through research and education. During these highly regarded events, Goodman Campbell physicians, providers, residents and students disseminate their research findings to the broader neurosurgical communities while learning about evolving clinical guidelines, best practices, and technologies.
Our participation in 15+ premier meetings and conferences every year demonstrates our commitment to generating, sharing, and applying new knowledge and more effective ways to improve patient care and outcomes. Following are three of the prestigious annual events Goodman Campbell participates in:
